The basics
How a working holiday works.
A working holiday visa lets you live in another country for a set time and work while you travel. Two countries agree to swap young people, so your passport decides where you can go.
- You must be inside the age range when you apply. Most schemes take people aged 18 to 30. Some go up to 35.
- Most schemes let you go once. A few let you stay longer if you do certain work.
- You need savings to live on at the start, and often a ticket home or the money for one.
- Some countries cap the places each year. When a cap fills, you wait for the next round.
- Each country sets its own work rules. Some limit how long you can work for one employer.
