The basics
How a golden visa works.
A golden visa is a residence permit you get for putting a set sum of money into a country. It lets you live there. It is not citizenship, and it does not give you a passport.
- You put a set sum into the country: property, a fund, company shares, bonds, a bank deposit or a donation. Each country lists its own routes.
- Of the 39 in our list, 22 take property, 10 take investment funds, 23 take a company, 8 take government bonds, 9 take a bank deposit and 2 take a donation.
- 6 of the 39 set no minimum number of days in the country each year. The others ask you to spend some time there.
- 12 of the 39 give permanent residence from the start. 17 more can lead to it after some years.
- The minimum is only the investment. Government fees come on top.
- Each country has its own tax rules for residents. Check them before you go.
