How much money do I need for the Switzerland freelance visa?
The SEM rules ask for enough money of your own to live on, plus the money and set-up the business needs. No figure is given.
How long can I stay on the Switzerland freelance visa?
In the first phase, while the business is set up, the permit is limited to at most 2 years. Renewal depends on the business meeting the goals in its business plan on time. It can be refused if it does not.
How much does the Switzerland freelance visa cost?
No fee figure on the federal pages. The canton handles the application.
Who can apply for the Switzerland freelance visa?
Open to people from outside the EU, the EEA and Switzerland. For non-EU/EFTA nationals who want to work for themselves in Switzerland. The business must have a lasting good effect on the Swiss labour market, such as jobs, investment or new orders for Swiss firms. Citizens of the EU, the EEA and Switzerland can already live in Switzerland without this visa.
How do I apply?
With the cantonal immigration and labour market authority. The canton's decision needs SEM approval. A visa may also be needed, depending on nationality. SEM says work permit files generally take six to eight weeks, and longer in complex cases or when a business applies for the first time.
