A steady pension from abroad of at least USD 1,000 a month. Each family member who comes with you adds USD 150 a month.

The official page asks for: certificate of your pension, birth certificate, health certificate, criminal record certificate, copy of your passport and two passport photos.

The law asks for a health certificate, not health insurance.
Can I work on the Nicaragua retirement visa?
You may not run a trade or business or take paid public work. You can run your own business if you own property worth at least USD 75,000 and a ministry approves it, or if the authorities give you express permission.
How long do I need to spend in Nicaragua?
You must spend at least 6 months a year in Nicaragua, in one go or in parts.
Does the Nicaragua retirement visa lead to permanent residence?
With this status you can apply for permanent residence straight away at the General Directorate of Migration and Foreigners (DGME).
How long does the Nicaragua retirement visa last?
The status leads to permanent residence.
How much does the Nicaragua retirement visa cost?
The law does not set the fee. You still pay the fees for the residence card (cédula).
Who can apply for the Nicaragua retirement visa?
Open to citizens of any other country. People aged 45 or over with a pension from a government or a public or private institution who want to live in Nicaragua.
Can I bring my family?
Parents, a spouse or partner and minor children who depend on you can join you. In some cases other close relatives can too.
How do I apply?
At the Nicaraguan Tourism Institute (INTUR) if you are in Nicaragua, or at a Nicaraguan consulate abroad. Then at the DGME for the residence card. A technical committee decides within 10 working days, and INTUR issues the decision within 5 more working days.
