What do I need for the Czechia student visa?
The official page asks for: confirmation of studies or enrolment, comprehensive medical insurance, proof of accommodation, criminal record certificate, valid passport and photograph, as well as the money to live on.
How much money do I need for the Czechia student visa?
15 times the monthly subsistence minimum, plus twice that minimum for each whole month after the first. The minimum is CZK 3,130 a month (since 1 January 2023), so one year of study needs CZK 115,810. Under-18s need half. A public body or company can instead promise to cover the stay.
Can I work while I study in the Czechia?
Students on this permit have free access to the labour market, so they can work without a separate work permit. The page gives no weekly hour limit.
Can I stay in the Czechia after I graduate?
After finishing an accredited university programme, you can get this permit for up to 9 months, with no extension, to look for work or start a business.
Can I get a Czechia student visa for a language course?
Yes. Language courses that do not count as study use a long-term visa or permit for other educational activities.
How long can I stay on the Czechia student visa?
The permit can be valid for up to 1 year, or up to 2 years in cases set by law. Students in an accredited university programme can extend it again and again, for up to 2 years each time; a language or preparation course can be extended only once.
How much does the Czechia student visa cost?
CZK 2,500 at the embassy (consular fee) or at a Ministry of the Interior office (administrative fee).
Who can apply for the Czechia student visa?
Open to people from outside the EU, the EEA and Switzerland. People from outside the EU who want to study in Czechia for more than 90 days. The study must count as study under Section 64 of the Foreigners Act.
How do I apply?
In person at a Czech embassy or consulate, usually in your country of nationality or where you have lived legally for 2 years; people already holding a Czech long-term visa or permit apply at a Ministry of the Interior office. 60 days, not counting time when the case is on hold.
