What do I need for the UK student visa?
The official page asks for: confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS), proof of English, B2 for degree level, valid passport, ATAS certificate for some subjects, tuberculosis test results if required and parental consent if aged 16 or 17, as well as the money to live on.
How much money do I need for the UK student visa?
GBP 1,529 a month for courses in London or GBP 1,171 a month outside London, for up to 9 months. You must hold it for 28 days in a row. Some nationalities do not need to show it unless asked.
Do I need to pay tuition before I apply?
You need money for 1 academic year of course fees (up to 9 months); the amount is on your CAS.
Can I work while I study in the UK?
Degree-level students at a higher education provider can work 20 hours a week in term time and full time outside term. Below degree level it is 10 hours a week; other study has no work rights.
Can I stay in the UK after I graduate?
2 years if you apply on or before 31 December 2026 and 18 months from 1 January 2027; 3 years after a PhD. You apply from inside the UK.
Can I get a UK student visa for a language course?
Yes. English language courses of more than 6 months and up to 11 months use the Short-term study visa (GBP 228, no work).
How long can I stay on the UK student visa?
The visa follows the length of your course; at degree level you can usually stay up to 5 years in total, below degree level up to 2 years. Yes. You can extend from inside the UK, for example to continue your studies.
How much does the UK student visa cost?
GBP 558 to apply. You also pay the immigration health surcharge, GBP 776 a year for students.
Who can apply for the UK student visa?
Open to citizens of any other country. For people aged 16 or over with an unconditional offer from a licensed student sponsor, enough money and enough English.
Can I bring my family?
Only government-sponsored students on courses over 6 months, or postgraduates on a PhD or research degree, can bring a partner and children.
How do I apply?
Apply online, from outside the UK up to 6 months before your course starts, or from inside the UK up to 3 months before. Usually 3 weeks from outside the UK and 8 weeks from inside.
