Work while you study

Part-time, with permitStudents need a work permit. Associate and bachelor's students may work part-time only after their first year. These limits do not apply to master's and doctoral students.

After you graduate

Up to 12 monthsGraduates of a higher education programme in Türkiye who apply within six months of graduating can get a short-term residence permit once, for up to one year.

Cost

TRY 964The 2026 residence permit card fee is 964 TL. The student checklist asks for proof that the card fee is paid.

Where to apply

In Türkiye. Register at the university, fill in the form at e-ikamet.goc.gov.tr and hand the documents to the university, which sends them to the Provincial Directorate of Migration Management.

Family

The student permit gives parents and wider family no right to a permit. A spouse and children can apply for a family residence permit if the sponsor meets the income, housing, insurance and one-year residence rules.

• The first application must be made while the visa or visa-free stay is still valid.
• Students can join General Health Insurance if they apply within 3 months of first registering at university. After that, private insurance is needed.
• A Turkish language course on its own can lead to a short-term residence permit, which is issued only twice (Law 6458, Article 31).
• Moving to a university in another province means a new application within 10 days.
• Pupils at primary and secondary schools need a student visa.
