What do I need for the Netherlands student visa?
The official page asks for: place at a school that is a recognised sponsor, full-time daytime course, health insurance, TB test after arrival (some nationalities exempt) and valid passport, as well as the money to live on.
How much money do I need for the Netherlands student visa?
EUR 1,130.77 a month in 2026 for university or hbo students, shown for at least one year. Tuition is not part of this sum.
Can I work while I study in the Netherlands?
Paid work of up to 16 hours a week, or full time in June, July and August only. The employer needs a work permit from the UWV. Work as a self-employed person is also allowed.
Can I stay in the Netherlands after I graduate?
Graduates can get a permit to stay for a year to look for a job or start a business; the application must be made within 3 years of graduating.
How long can I stay on the Netherlands student visa?
The permit lasts for the length of the course plus 3 months, up to 5 years. Yes. If the course takes longer than 5 years, the school can ask for the permit to be extended.
How much does the Netherlands student visa cost?
EUR 254 for a first application, paid to the school, which pays the IND.
Who can apply for the Netherlands student visa?
Open to people from outside the EU, the EEA and Switzerland. People from outside the EU, EEA and Switzerland who are registered for a full-time day course at a Dutch school that the IND recognises as a sponsor.
Can I bring my family?
The school can apply for family members too, but the student acts as their sponsor.
How do I apply?
The school applies to the IND for the student. People who need an entry visa (MVV) get it in the same procedure and collect it at the Dutch embassy or consulate. If the file is complete, the IND usually decides within 2 weeks; the legal limit is 90 days.
