How long do I need to spend in Hong Kong?
The rules set no yearly minimum stay to keep the visa. Permanent residence needs 7 years of continuous ordinary residence; without it, you can apply for unconditional stay after 7 years.
Does the Hong Kong golden visa lead to permanent residence?
After 7 years of continuous ordinary residence you can apply to become a Hong Kong permanent resident. If you kept the investment for 7 years but did not live there, you can apply for unconditional stay instead.
How long does the Hong Kong golden visa last?
Up to 24 months after formal approval. Yes, for up to 3 years at a time while you keep the investment.
How much does the Hong Kong golden visa cost?
HKD 600 application fee, then a visa issuance fee of HKD 1,300 for a stay of more than 180 days (HKD 600 for 180 days or less).
Can I work on the Hong Kong golden visa?
You may work, be self-employed or run a business in Hong Kong.
Who can apply for the Hong Kong golden visa?
Open to citizens of any other country. People aged 18 or over with net assets of at least HKD 30 million over the 6 months before applying, who invest HKD 30 million in Hong Kong. Chinese nationals qualify only with permanent residence abroad, or as residents of Macao or Taiwan.
Can I bring my family?
A spouse or recognised civil partner and unmarried dependent children under 18.
How do I apply?
Online: first to the New CIES Office of Invest Hong Kong for the asset and investment checks, then to the Immigration Department for the visa.
